Volunteer Opportunities at Southern District YMCA/ Camp Lincoln
Volunteers are the cornerstone of the YMCA movement. Each year, our volunteers touch the lives of so many children and families in the community. If you would like to join in our mission to bring values-based, affordable programming to our community, please contact us now. No matter how you help, you will make a big difference as you work with others to create a feeling of connectedness in our community.
Camp Lincoln Volunteer Opportunities
Camp Lincoln can always utilize volunteers to help improve our camp grounds and facilities. In the past, volunteers have landscaped our grounds, created a brick patio, built shelves to house equipment in the sports shed, added new sections to our dock, and constructed a gazebo for our grill. If you are handy or have a passion for carpentry and tools, we can certainly use your expertise out at camp.
This summer, we are also looking for someone to share their love of woodworking or pottery with our campers. We have programs areas set up for both and even have our own kiln. Please contact us for more information.
School's Out Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer at one of our School's Out programs! Do you have a special skill or fun activity you want to teach to school age children? Or do you want to help our School's Out staff to lead activities, games and arts and crafts and help children with homework? Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age; have, or be working toward, a high school diploma or equivalent; interact well with children ages 5-15; have strong sense of community; and exhibit core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Please contact us if you would like to get involved with School's Out.
Community-Based Volunteer Opportunities
While we run successful programs at Camp Lincoln and School's Out Programs, we also strive to bring our YMCA programs out to the community. Volunteers make our community events successful by serving on planning committees and working at the events. Volunteers help staff our portable climbing wall at the Exeter PTO 5K Road Race in May. Volunteers are currently planning a 5K Turkey Trot Road Race for Thanksgiving Day, 2009. Do you have an idea for a volunteer-run community event or program? If so, we would love to hear about it.
Volunteers play a big role in fundraising to build the Squamscott Community Commons Community Center/YMCA. There are a variety of volunteer positions available related to this capital campaign. We will eventually need volunteers to serve on advisory groups 18 months prior to the opening of our new full facility YMCA. These groups will give input and suggestions into all areas of the new facility including, aquatics, group exercise, fitness center, youth and family programming, and membership and marketing. Please contact us to learn more about community-based volunteering for the YMCA.
Board of Directors Opportunities
Currently, we have 17 members sitting on our Board of Directors. Our Board members give their time, talent, and treasure to oversee the organization and ensure that the YMCA serves our community in the best possible way. The Board meets once a month. At the end of each year, the Board nominates and elects a new class of 3-5 board members to begin service in January of the following year. Board orientation and mentorship is provided to new members. We interview and recruit potential board member candidates throughout the year. Please contact us if Board service interests you.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Group volunteer service is a great way to create bonds between co-workers, students, friends, scout troops, church members, and other groups. Groups may volunteer for the YMCA at Camp, School's Out, or in the community. Each year, several volunteer groups including City Year, Timberland Corporation, Phillips Exeter Academy students, and Starbucks, perform volunteer service for the Southern District YMCA/Camp Lincoln. We would love to have your group out to the YMCA to lend a hand. Please contact us for ideas on how your group can strengthen their bonds while helping out the community.
